Jesus College peer supporters

Trinity Term 2020

Hello from your friendly peer support team!
We have all trained with the University Counselling Service to enable us to listen effectively, communicate sensitively, maintain confidentiality, respect boundaries, and help you get in touch with professional support services if needed.
Peer supporters are here to chat about anything you want to get off your chest, big or small.
Just drop us a message!

Astrid

they/them | 3rd year DPhil Classics | Rainbow Peer

The longer I've been in Oxford, the more I've become aware of how important it is to have someone to talk to. Issues of any size can feel insurmountable in our stressful environment, especially for those of us who also face extra challenges, visible or not. I'm here to talk about all this, and also about cats, languages, hot chocolate, and all the things that make life a little bit lighter.

Priyanka

she/her | 2nd year Law | Peer of Colour | JCR Welfare Officer

Part of what makes Jesus so great is the number of friendly people to talk to and peer support makes this community even stronger. You can probably find me in the JCR conservatory munching snacks, playing netball or with my nose in a law textbook. Whatever I’m doing, I’m always here for a chat, a sympathetic ear, some friendly company or anything else you might need. Always feel free to reach out!

Jamie

he/him | 2nd year Philosophy and Linguistics | JCR Welfare Officer

From Port Meadow to College brunch, I love being at Oxford and I feel lucky to be able to help others have a fantastic experience too. Alongside my bordering-on-obsession for philosophy, I enjoy reading and writing, playing trombone (especially in 'Jazzus'), going for runs, and tearing up the ice rink with 'Jesice'. But something I love more than "Jesus" puns is meeting new people, so please do reach out with your concerns, big or small!

anna

she/her |2nd year MPhil Linguistics | Rainbow Peer

I am a fan of human brain and cognition, a dog person, a soprano and a very queer woman. I know a lot about depression, anxiety and PTSD and I have some experience working with domestic and sexual violence survivors. Whether you wanna talk about something big and scary or just vent a bit or have a quiet cup of tea in a sympathetic company, I am here for you!

Bronny

she/her | 5th year Medicine

We medics are a notoriously elusive bunch and this year I am trying my hardest to prove the haters wrong and remain 'relevant' in college. I've dabbled in various aspects of college life from choir to rowing to mixed lacrosse and some poor attempts in goal in the women's football... I'm always up for a chat and a cup of tea for any reason big or small. I am also the biggest fan of welfare baking so if you're ever craving some homemade baked goods let me know and I will deliver!

Isobel

She/her | 1st year DPhil Engineering

I love being a student at Oxford but it does come with a fair few challenges. I became a peer supporter because I know what a relief it can be to talk through a problem with an engaged listener. I'm often about College and always enjoy a cup of tea so please don't hesitate to get in touch. Am also a big fan of yoga & climbing & 70% dark chocolate. Currently, trying to stop starting all my sentences with 'I heard on this podcast that…'

Alice

she/her | 2nd year Physics

Hey! I'm Alice and I'm a second year physicist. I am a huge fan of porridge, apple crumble and (perhaps controversially) absolutely love hall's veggie Wellington! I love a cheeky bit of climate activism, playing music in bands and a good run around port meadow. I am always up for a cup of tea no matter what and I believe that everyone should be kind to each other as it really makes a huge difference!

Esther

she/her | 2nd year Mathematics and Statistics

Hi I am Esther. I love cooking and posting food pictures on Instagram. I love to study in Cornmarket street Starbucks so if you see me there please say hi 😃 Coming from a foreign country and being away from family, I struggled quite a bit when I first came to Oxford. I know Oxford life can be hard sometimes and the importance of having someone to talk to, I am always here to chat about anything.

Hi, I'm Lili, I'm a second year languages student and one of the JCR LGBTQ+ reps. I care a lot about everyone being heard and work on the OxSU LGBTQ+, Women’s and Disability campaigns. I’m always happy to listen and chat if you need someone to talk to.

Virtual drop-ins

In these weird and socially-distanced times, your favourite peer supporters will be available 3 times a week for live chats and video calls. You can always get in touch with us, of course, but at these times you will know that one of us is free and ready to talk.
The schedule for each week's drop-ins will be published on the JCR and MCR Facebook pages, as well as circulated on Teams and all social media.

Peer Support Love!
